workin' on my fitness?

Yesterday started off beautifully. We got to the airport and I was perfectly prepared. Our first two flights went off without a hitch, not one meltdown and Liv slept the entire second one flight. I was feeling pretty lucky.

When we reached the area where our stroller was, I put my sleeping child in and kept it reclined. I hung her diaper bag over the handlebar and lugged my backpack onto my back. I spotted the screen for connecting flights and saw my flight was departing at 9:15pm. I then noticed the clock on the wall, which read 9:00pm. Immediate panic went through me and I started sprinting.

Ok, you may be thinking "yeah right, sprinting?", but yes...I used to run track in highschool and that is exactly what it felt like....like I was running a 400m dash, but really it was the 1600m, and let me tell you...if I had been racing the 1600m dash, I would have won! During my dash, I heard over the loud speaker "final call for boarding on flight 1055 to Calgary". SERIOUSLY?! Didn't anyone tell them that I was coming?! I heard that message two more times... During which I felt super grateful that I had worn extra long warm socks, boots, long sleeved shirt, sweatshirt, and winter jacket.

The only thing running through my head was if I missed this damn flight, there would be tears. Lots of them, between gasps for air. BUT I made it...by the skin of my teeth. As my lead filled legs closed in on my gate, I could see that the women at the desk could tell I was sprinting to the flight because they point at me like "oh there she is!". So I start walking because my legs were going to fall off and I was huffing and puffing. I walked up to the desk and the woman immdiately asks for my passport, ummm "just a second ::GASPPPP::, while I die ""GASPPPP". I hand the demanding b-word over our passports and she stands there making me a ticket because conveniently I don't have a seat.

No Joke...everyone was staring at me. I don't know if it was they were concerned for my health or embarassed for me because I was half dead, sweating, and red faced due to my abnormal physical exertion. I didn't even care. I contemplated giving them all the finger and asking them if they just sprinted across the damn airport dressed for a blizzard with a 30lb sleeping baby, dipe bag, and a 20lb backpack on?!!!! Don't mess with me.

The stewardess handed me my boarding pass while I swallowed the puke rising in my throat. Liv was honestly a champ. As soon as we got on board, I gave her a bottle and she was back asleep before she even finished it...completely oblivious to the drama that just went down around her.

  4. I was panicking for you in this post. One of my BIGGEST fears (besides actually flying) is missing the plane. To me, it's like dying because I can't see how anything could ever happen after that.
My friend used to miss her flights all the time for business because she was always late. I couldn't believe how casual she was about it.

  6. I'm glad you made it. I HATE running through airports. Why do airports insist on making us all stressed?
